Fantabulous Foto Friday

Yay!
It’s almost the weekend!!
*insert many more exclamation marks*

Once again, I’m on target with posting every day from Monday to Friday …shocker!
This means I’ll actually have a nice relaxing weekend that won’t be punctuated with “OMG what am I going to WRITE!!!??? Why is my life SO BORING!!!?” as I stare at a blank laptop screen and try to hit my ‘five posts a week’ target.

I’m booking my train ticket for the Irish Blog Awards today.
I’m actually ridiculously excited about the event!
It’s not just about being nominated or winning awards – it’s about meeting up with all the lovely Irish bloggers we’ve met this year.
Only three weeks to go…YAY!

A little letter to…. the Irish Blog Awards Committee

Dear Committee,

I would like to begin this letter by saying it’s not an attack on you.
I’m well aware of the fact that you probably get a number of sad people who love to criticise your efforts, but I assure you I’m not one of them.
I’ve said on a number of occasions how great I think you are for all your hard work and I genuinely do look forward to the Awards, enjoy being involved in the judging process and love the opportunity to discover new blogs.

Early today I asked you via Twitter if there were going to be separate categories for Fashion and Beauty blogs.
The lovely Blau also posed this question.
This was the response we got:

I didn’t realise Fashion and Beauty bloggers were second class blogosphere citizens that had to hold their own measly awards for recognition.

Now I understand that fashion and beauty seem shallow, trivial and superficial to some people.
Well plenty of people feel that way about sports.
Others may think those topics are mindnumbing.
Again, plenty of people feel the same about politics.

As I pointed out to The Boy in a rant earlier on – a point that Blau later raised on Twitter – if you’re not going to separate Fashion and Beauty, then why would you separate Politics from News and Current Affairs?
The Political Blog category could even be combined with Blog by a Politician in to one shiny Politics category.

Photography is separated from Arts and Culture, but Fashion and Beauty are still lumped together.

When this issue is raised, there are remarks along the lines of “they just want categories designed for only them”.
Well I’m not a fashion OR a beauty blogger, so this isn’t a personal issue.
I’m not asking for an obscure category such as Extreme Ironing Blogs.
I’m asking for Fashion and Beauty to be acknowledged as different topics -something many other bloggers have also called for, only to be fobbed off.

If money is the issue, I would be more than happy to pay for the award that is handed out on the night.
If there are other monetary costs that I’m not aware of, well I’ll say here and now that A Chick Named Hermia will sponsor the Fashion category if you, the committee, will listen to bloggers’ suggestions and separate the topics.
….I should add that I’m obviously not rich, but once the sponsor fee is reasonable and not a couple of grand, I’d be more than happy to pay up.

I am asking you guys now not to get defensive or feel like you’re being attacked and instead listen to what I am saying and take it on board .
I am not criticising your hard work, your efforts or the ceremony itself.
What I am criticising is your failure to listen to what bloggers are asking you and for making Fashion and Beauty Bloggers feel less significant than ‘heavy topic’ writers.

I hope you’ll do the right thing.
Hermia

Callin’ out sins just to pass the time

I feel as though I’ve lost a week of my life!
Last Sunday, something strange and scary possessed me to type up a week’s worth of post.
I never do that.
I’m a Last Minute Poster.
I’m an adrenaline junkie who’s afraid of heights and dislikes exercise, so I get my Living On The Edge kicks through serious procrastination.

But anyway!

Obviously my psychic powers kicked in again, because on Monday night, I started to feel a little odd and when I woke up on Tuesday BAM I was flu-ridden.
Those of you who are lucky enough to have acquaintained yourself with A Chick Named Hermia‘s Facebook page will have spent the week receiving dramatic updates about my snot content and impending death.
Sorry!!!
It last the WHOLE WEEK and even now I’m still sickly.

It was the worst time to get ill too, because I had a jam-packed week and ended up having to cancel a lot of things that had been in the works for ages!
Twas heartbreaking!
*sniff*

One thing I COULD NOT AND WOULD NOT MISS was the epic first Irish Blogger Bash on Saturday Night.
It wouldn’t have looked good if one of the organisers doesn’t show.
(that was my excuse, anyway)
:)
I sipped Hot Whiskies made by the lovely and sympathetic barman all night, while the rest of the girls drank wine in a most stylish fashion, as spirits ran high!
Twas a fantastic night and it was wonderful to hang out with old blogger friends such as Whisty and Aisling and meet new ones like Alex and the WWIWT Girls, among many!
The gorgeous Jo was even amazing enough to bring beautiful mini cupcakes topped with Cadbury’s chocolate!
Unfortunately we were missing some wonderful ladies like Blau, WR and Ali, due to an extra MGMT date being announcedm badly timed holidays and London Fashion Week going on, but we’re definitely looking forward to the next gathering, which by the sounds of things is going to be PACKED with talented bloggers!

And I said what about Breakfast at Tiffany’s…

Or maybe more aptly titled:
The Rise Before The Fall

So yesterday was kinda great.

It didn’t seem like it was going to go that way as I ran, arms flailing and sweat dripping, for my Luas, only to have it drive off as I got within two seconds of it.

Bastard.
You just know he saw me, waited for me to get close and then took some serious sexual pleasure in closing those doors.

Anyway, I trudged into work 20mins late, realising that today was the day that they were doing stuff to the electricals in our centuries-old building, which would result in chaos as we would be missing hours of recordings.
The predicted hour blackout turned into two hours and 30mins.

Turned out the discourse was indeed sweet and I got to catch up on Vogue and Elle.

The final few hours of my working day were a bit mental, what with having to work and all that, but I was unaffected by the madness, knowing that I was going to spend a few preciously rare hours with the recently dubbed ‘vixen’, Miss Blau Von T.

Yes, my friends, the reincarnated harlot of the silent movie era had made her way to Dublin from Cork!

We spent glorious hours drinking chocolate bars made into milkshakes (thank you Evolution) and shopping in Urban Outfitters.
Turns out today was the beginning of their Summer sale and you can colour me bargained!
My wardrobe is beaming as I speak!
Eh, type.
You know what I mean.

And just when I thought things couldn’t get more wonderful, along came Whisty.
Twas like my birthday and Christmas in one hanging out with these girls.

You already heard me rave about Blau in previous posts and you’re about to endure some raves with the subject matter of Whisty.
She’s just a gem.
Bloody hilarious.
Painfully fashionable.
And I kinda want her hair.
I hear scalping is illegal now…. *sigh*

So we giggled and innuendoed and spilled some beans over giant burgers and cider at Gourmet Burger.
Frickin’ sweet.

Heading home on the bus, The Boy text to say he’d collect me from the stop, which is really very sweet considering we live about a 4mins walk from it and so there’s no need at all for him to raise his bum from the couch.

Exhilarated from my wonderful evening and heart-warmed by his gesture, I felt compelled to plant an enthusiastically passionate kiss on him upon our meeting.

Unfortunately, I was a little too enthusiastic and he, completely caught off guard by my attempted mouth rape, lost his balance, causing me to lose my balance….and then fall over in the middle of the street while he stood helplessly watching.

I have a scraped elbow and knee.
And a potentially broken toe.

So much for a romantic Hollywood-esque embrace!
*sigh*

:D
