Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes

Last week, a radio presenter read one of my tweets out on air.
Don’t worry, the post isn’t about that: I’m not so bad that I think this is worth bragging about.
But as it was a tweet, he also read out my Twitter Username: @chicknamedherms
ChickNamedHermia was too long by ONE LETTER to use so I had to use the ‘Herms’ nickname a lot of you have given me.
When I heard him say it – actually heard it said out loud – I cringed.

That’s right.
I cringed at my own blog name.
I felt like one of those sad teenagers who try to reinvent themselves by choosing some strange name that they think will make them sound ‘original’.
Or those teenage Angst Girls who name themselves after goddesses because they think it’s deep.

I didn’t choose the blog name all those 2.5years ago so that people would call me Hermia.
That didn’t even occur to me at the time.
I know…how slow am I?
The name came from the lyrics of a song in the film Get Over It.
Musical Shakespeare.
How could I resist?

It seemed like a good idea at the time: different, a little quirky and gave me some anonymity.
Now though.
Now I feel less happy with it as a blog name.

So I’m asking you guys:
Should I change the name of the blog to something a little more adult, a little more creative?
To something that sums the blog up better?

Please Discuss.
And Happy St Patrick’s Day Eve.

  1. I love the name of your blog!! (Also, Get Over It was a great film!) I don’t think you should change it, especially because when I google ‘Hermia’ your blog is the second result…. Pllllleeeeeaaaaasssseee, don’t change! xx

  2. DON’T even THINK about IT! 🙂
BTW..I’m making green cupcakes with Max today so we can celebrate your St Pats day tomorrow here in SA. Just an excuse to eat cake for breakfast really…but will post you a pic anyway 😉

  3. NO! Don’t change it! Its great 🙂

  4. I like the obscure musical Shakespeare reference. In fact, the Get Over It reference was what brought me here in the first place!

Although, if you are not happy with the name, I’ll support you if you want to change it.

I kinda hope you don’t though

  5. You can’t change it now, when you’re number 2 on Google! Get to number 1 first, so at least you can claim to be bigger than Shakespeare 🙂

  6. This is crazy talk. You will do no such thing, ya hear?

  7. emilycross

Don’t change it. I tried to do that once with my own name and it was a complete and utter disaster. People know you has Hermia, it’s like your brand now 🙂

  8. Oh no! What an awkward way to begin the reconsidering process. :/ I like the name of your blog very much, but if it’s not something you’re comfortable with, make the change – as long as the content remains similar & you remain you, you know we’ll all still be here! 🙂

  9. I always thought your blog name was cool, never ever thought of it as ‘young’ 🙂 xx

  10. Cli

Noooooooo, leave it, leave it. I love Get Over It. I have it on video. Yes, on video.

  11. I like you just the way you are

  12. Don’t change! Lurve the blog name!

  13. I love the name! Don’t change

  14. Naw, Catherine. Don’t change it. It’s cool to have an alter-ego.

  15. Emmaa

Nooo, please don’t change it. Chick Named Hermia is my port-of-call if I’m having a bad day. If you changed it, I might not be able to find it :O

p.s. if a radio DJ read out a tweet of mine, I’d sure brag about it. It would be like my ice breaker. 😛

  16. theboy

    Hermia is awesome!!!

  17. Eve

Don’t change it! I think it’ll really confuse people if you do. I like the name!

  18. don’t think you should change it! x

  19. Don’t change it!! Hermia is your brand, don’t mess with the brand 🙂

And I think the name and it’s origins are great. Hermia 4lyf xx

  20. DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!
    No. No no no.
    xx

  21. Looks like I might me in the minority here, but if you hate it, I’d change it. Or update it, or just shift it a little so that people can still find you, but that it makes you happier. Does that make sense?

  22. Hmmm, a tricky one.
I love the name Hermia (or Hermz, Herms, H et al). It’s definitely not too young. I also wouldn’t imagine everyone who stops-by here knows it’s a character from A Midsummer Nights Dream (?) and therefore it just sounds slightly whimsical and romantic.
But there is nothing worse than working under a name you hate or worse makes you cringe.
Because of which, I’m inclined to agree with Terra (above); maybe a little tweak would make perfect sense and you happier.
It would be a heck of a lot of work to change everything though; Facebook , Twitter, Blog Rolls and other links…
Is it the name ‘Hermia’ or the ‘Chick Named’ bit that makes you cringe more…?
Maybe working that out will help you decide what to do?
p.s. Having a blog that starts with an ‘A’ is also a pretty darn good thing when it comes to lists!

  23. NO!!!! DON’T CHANGE! Whenever I think about blogs to surf your’s is the first to pop in my mind because of the awesome, unique name. I wish I would of thought of Hermia before you did 🙂
